SKRIPSI (6659) - The Protection of Video Game Software from the Infringement by Emulator Creators
The rapid development of emulation technology has provided opportunities for gamers to access and play video game software without the original platforms. However, this convenience often facilitates infringement through unauthorized duplication and distribution of ROMs. In Indonesia, this practice violates Law Number 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright Law or UUHC, which protects creators’ exclusive rights, as well as Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions or UU ITE.
This research investigates the legal challenges surrounding infringement by emulators, emphasizing the importance of enforcing copyright law to protect video game creators. By analyzing the Yuzu emulator case, the study underscores the need for stronger legal frameworks to address copyright infringements effectively in the digital era. Ultimately, this research highlights the detrimental impact of infringement by emulators on the video game industry.
