SKRIPSI ( 6161 ) - The Efficacy of Indonesia's Gender Quota Policy in Achieving Gender Equality in Politics in Comparison to Iceland and Finland
The purely instantaneous utilization of the quota policy in Indonesia has resulted in a mere numerical increase of women parliamentarians and even brought with it a higher risk of inequality problem. A question thus arose on whether the implementation of the gender quota policy is an effective way to reach gender equality within the country’s political domain. An analysis of the gender policy implementation in Iceland and Finland will be made as a comparison to Indonesia’s implementation as their successful development of gender equality is often used as a ground to establish gender quota policies in other countries. This research paper will reveal the intersecting challenges that Indonesian women face which prevent their participation in politics despite the legislated quota policy. Consequently, there is a great importance of parallel development in other fields – e.g., legal, socio-economic, and cultural – to effectuate the policy.
